  • Dr. Carlene Mendieta was born in Winnemucca, Nevada on January 18, 1954.

 

  • She developed a love of flying as a child and began to fly Piper Cubs in 1998.

 

  • In 2001 Mendieta recreated Amelia Earhart's record-setting trip across America and back.

 

  • Mendieta flew a fully restored 1927 Avro Avian, the same type of aircraft used by Earhart on her record-setting flight.

 

  • Mendieta is a periodontist and currently lives in Sonoma, California.
